DayClock InClock OutBreak

How It Works

Enter clock-in and clock-out times for each day along with break duration. The calculator computes daily hours, weekly totals, and automatically flags overtime (hours over 40). Pay is calculated if an hourly rate is provided.

Time Card Tips

  • Breaks:Most states require a 30-min unpaid meal break for shifts over 5-6 hours
  • Rounding:FLSA allows rounding to the nearest 15 minutes if it averages out fairly
  • Records:Employers must keep time records for at least 3 years under FLSA

How to Calculate Time Card Hours

A time card calculator converts clock-in and clock-out times into total hours worked per day and per week. This is essential for accurate payroll processing and labor law compliance.

The Formula

Daily Hours = (Clock Out - Clock In) - Break Duration

Weekly Hours = Sum of Daily Hours

Weekly Pay = (Regular Hrs x Rate) + (OT Hrs x Rate x 1.5)

Example

An employee clocks in at 7:00 AM and out at 3:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch break:

  • Total shift: 8.5 hours
  • Minus 30-min break: 8.0 hours worked
  • At $20/hr: $160 daily pay

Why Accurate Time Cards Matter

Inaccurate time tracking is one of the leading causes of wage and hour lawsuits. The Department of Labor recovered over $274 million in back wages in 2023 alone. Using a reliable time tracking system helps protect both employers and employees from payroll disputes and ensures compliance with federal and state labor laws.
